Running on
Pope says she is running for fully funded public schools and opposes vouchers and charter expansion, backed by progressive revenue in which big business pays a fair share. Her platform calls for equitable district funding to make every school a magnet for learning, more social workers, counselors, and wraparound services, culturally relevant curriculum with a library in every school, real restorative justice, expanded dual language programs, bus transportation as an equity issue, and green schools.
Background
Pope taught in Chicago Public Schools for decades as a bilingual and history teacher, including at Benito Juarez, Schurz, and Gage Park high schools, retiring from CPS in 2011, and later worked with the Chicago Teachers Union, including its grievance department and House of Delegates. She was appointed to the board's District 2B seat in January 2025.
