At an April 2026 candidate forum at UIC, Hershey said he is running against the system, criticized both major parties for deporting immigrants and spending heavily on wars, and called for abolishing ICE. In his 2024 Sun-Times questionnaire for this seat he called for automatic wage increases tied to inflation, a shorter work week at full pay, full rights for all immigrants, and an end to U.S. military aid to Israel. He says the goal of his campaign is to build a party that the working class can organize around its own needs.
Background
He has taught at Lindblom High School on Chicago's South Side for more than 16 years, served as a union representative in his school, and was the Working Class Party nominee for this district in 2022 and 2024.
