Running as an independent with running mate Carolyn Schofield, president of the McHenry County Mental Health Board and a former McHenry County Board member. His campaign centers on affordability, including lowering property taxes, freezing discretionary state spending and the gas tax, and reining in data center growth to bring down energy costs. He also proposes cutting business regulations, phasing out the estate tax for family farms and businesses, fixing DCFS, and good-government changes such as fair legislative maps, open primaries, and campaign finance reform. He also backs moving sales taxes off basics such as groceries and diapers and onto services, a mileage-based tax in place of the motor fuel tax, and an independent ethics commission over all of state government, and he supports marriage equality, abortion rights, and more gun control measures.
